ComStar® RS-44B refrigerant, a drop-in replacement for R22, is the latest addition to the U.S. market as RS-453A. This refrigerant has been available globally for the past three years under the name RS-70 and is designed to operate with very similar discharge pressure, cooling capacity, and flow rate as R22. It requires no changes to oil or system components and boasts the lowest Global Warming Potential (GWP) of any HFC R22 replacement at 1664 TAR, while being completely ozone-depleting substance-free. RS-44B maintains the same flow rate as R22, operates at similar discharge pressures and lower pressures compared to R407A & C, R422B & D, R417A, and R427A, and contributes to lower energy consumption. This refrigerant performs effectively at near cooling capacity of R22 in both air conditioning and refrigeration applications down to -20°F evaporating temperature. It can be mixed with R22 or RS-44 without compromising system performance and is suitable for cap tube and TXV systems, having been implemented in diverse systems and compressors worldwide since 2013. RS-44B is manufactured in Texas, the UK, and Spain, and notably requires no oil for operation.
