The 3M™ Finesse-it™ Natural Buffing Pad is crafted from select lamb's wool hide, trimmed to a length of 20 mm, providing a more aggressive cutting action compared to longer-fiber pads. The natural hide structure holds each fiber independently, which reduces lint discharge, while the dense pile surface retains polish for consistent material distribution, minimizing splatter and jumping. This pad is specifically designed for buffing automotive OEM, marine, and aerospace coatings and, when paired with Finesse-it polishes, effectively removes finishing abrasive sand scratches, oxidation, and other paint surface imperfections. A follow-up polishing step with a finer pad may be necessary to eliminate swirl marks completely. The pad utilizes the 3M™ Hookit™ attachment system for easy mounting and secure placement during use, making it compatible with a hook-and-loop backup disc (sold separately) on rotary or random orbital tools. Wool pads offer a greater available cutting surface area due to the multitude of fibers, providing faster cutting action than foam pads, while also requiring less operator pressure. These characteristics enable wool pads to glide over surfaces and conform to contours, leading to better control compared to foam pads. They are particularly effective at removing sanding scratches, ideally used with rotary buffing tools, though finishing with a wool pad may necessitate a subsequent step with a foam pad and polish, influenced by the type of polish used, individual technique, coating composition, and tool selection.
