These JET® drill presses utilize a variable-speed motor with a stepped-pulley system and are equipped with a continuously variable transmission, allowing for operation at a wide range of speeds and enabling speed changes during operation. A scale-marked hand wheel, which corresponds to the desired machine speed, is mounted to a reduction gearing system for precise operator control, adjusting the gearing ratio between the motor's fixed pulley and the output shaft's variable pulley to change the speed of the chuck. The design includes a tensioner pulley in the belt transmission to take up or release slack as speeds change. The kit includes a 1/2" drill chuck and arbor, and features a 3" column diameter for maximum head support, a 6" stroke for deep hole applications, full bearing support on the quill for maximum spindle stiffness, handwheel speed adjustment ranging from 400 to 5,000 RPM, and a large 2-1/4" quill for enhanced accuracy.
