3M™ Scotch® 8959 bi-directional filament tape features a backing reinforced with continuous glass yarn filaments, delivering exceptional tensile strength in both longitudinal and transverse directions, coupled with a biaxially oriented polypropylene backing. The adhesive is engineered for strong adhesion to various surfaces, including metallic, plastic, and fiberboard. Key features include a 5.7 mil thickness, a clear polypropylene backing supported by bi-directional glass filaments and a synthetic rubber adhesive, high cross-direction tensile strength, and visibility of printed illustrations through the tape. The tape exhibits excellent shear and initial adhesion, outstanding aging properties, and enhanced durability due to the protection of filaments and adhesive, which contributes to a longer package life. Additionally, it outperforms paper backings in outdoor and humid conditions, resists center seams slitting in both machine and cross directions, and maintains excellent holding power across diverse application settings with minimal tape usage. The tape requires minimal rubdown for adhesion and does not need water activation, ensuring boxes remain securely closed for extended periods.
