3M™ Paint Masking Tape 231/231A is a premium high-performance crepe paper masking tape designed specifically for aerospace painting applications, including multiple bake cycles. It features a natural rubber adhesive that provides instant sticking, fast application, and reliable holding power resistant to lifting. The tape offers excellent adhesive transfer resistance with clean removal, which reduces labor and cleanup. Its smooth mini-crepe backing ensures excellent surface contact, is solvent and moisture resistant to minimize bleed-through, and includes a special backside treatment for smooth unwind, easy handling, and reduced waste. The tape is easy to tear but strong enough to resist slivering, allowing user-friendly one-piece removal. It conforms easily around corners and irregular surfaces and delivers paint flake resistance to reduce contamination and rework. The crepe paper backing tears easily, provides moderate conformability, and removes cleanly. The adhesive bonds well to paper, metal, wood, and painted surfaces under normal operating conditions, maintaining one-piece removal and sliver resistance. This tape is certified to ASTM D-6123, replacing the obsolete PPP-T-42C, Type I, CID-A-A-883B. It is recommended for large-scale aerospace paint operations and high-temperature paint bake cycles.
