The Tekton L-key set features short arms optimized for close access to fasteners, allowing work in tighter spaces with greater control. The keys are designed with high leverage, especially longer lengths in the larger sizes to increase torque where it matters. The hex key geometry is precisely manufactured on the larger end of the applicable tolerance range for a tight fit with fasteners, reducing slop. Tolerances are controlled in two ways—point-to-point and side-to-side measurements—to ensure high dimensional accuracy and consistency. The keys include a 20° ball angle to increase access to fasteners while maintaining strength. Edges are refined with slight chamfering (except on sizes 1.3 mm, 1.5 mm, 2 mm, 0.050 in., 1/16 in., and 5/64 in.) and a smooth top face to optimize fastener engagement. Made from 8660 nickel chromium molybdenum steel heat-treated to 54-58 HRC, the tools are hard but not brittle. All keys have a corrosion-resistant manganese phosphate finish tested by a 45-hour soak in a 1% saltwater solution after cleaning with isopropyl alcohol. The sizes are clearly marked with high-visibility laser and stamped markings, except for the smallest sizes. The holder is designed for quick access, organizing L-keys facing forward for easy retrieval without moving others, and features self-aligning key slots shaped to guide each L-key head into alignment.
