The BSPT threads feature the Whitworth thread form, designed to provide a pressure-tight fit through the mating of the threads, achieved by cutting the threads on a taper. The taper restricts the thread from screwing into the companion female thread beyond a specified distance, defined by the standard as a length based on hand-tight engagement; a useful guideline for plastic threads is finger-tight plus 1/2 to 1 turn with a wrench. Caution is advised against over-tightening plastic threads, as this can cause stress on the fitting, potentially leading to failure. The fittings exhibit the same physical and chemical resistance properties as natural Kynar and include recycled runner material from virgin material production runs. These fittings are suitable for applications that do not require lot traceability or materials that meet USP Class VI requirements and represent an excellent value. They operate effectively within a temperature range of -80°F to 226°F (108°C) and sustain a pressure of 260 psi at 70°F.
