The dock board is designed to enhance loading operations while minimizing accidents and reducing labor costs. It features an anti-skid diamond tread surface and beveled curbs for maximum safety, and is constructed from lightweight, high-strength aluminum that resists corrosion. The full-length welded aluminum curbs provide extra rigidity and help prevent operator run-off, with a full-length handgrip on the curb for safe and easy handling. Additionally, it includes a safety stop on the underside that fits snugly between the truck and dock to prevent movement under load. The dock board comes with an 11-degree angle unless another angle is specified, and features an 11" entry lip with a rounded nose to protect tires. It meets OSHA requirements 1910.30(a) and can be reversed when the truck is lower than the dock level. The capacity of the board is determined by the combined weight of the maximum pallet load and lift truck, rated for a single shift with equipment speeds of 3 mph maximum, while for multi-shift operations using 3-wheeled forklifts or trucks with paper roll clamps, an additional 5000 lbs. should be added to the capacity. The width of the board should be 12" greater than that of the lift truck or load, with the most popular width being 60"; however, the usable width is 4" less than the overall width. It is important to note that stackers, 3-wheeled forklifts, and other narrow aisle loaders should not be used on a dock board, and refrigerated trucks require special dock boards.
