The KDW features a textured frame and bead designed to allow drywall joint compound to be applied in sufficient thickness to conceal the flange. It includes prepunched holes in the flange for easy fastening to framing members using drywall screws. The trim is made of galvanized steel drywall bead. Key attributes include a concealed continuous piano hinge, flush latches that can be operated with a screwdriver, or a key-operated cylinder lock equipped with an automatic dust shutter. The finish consists of a prime coat of rust inhibitive electrostatic powder, baked grey enamel. The frame is constructed from 16-gauge steel, while the door is made from 14-gauge steel.
