The KDW is designed with a textured frame and bead, allowing drywall joint compound to be applied in sufficient thickness to conceal the flange. It includes prepunched holes in the flange to facilitate fastening to framing members using drywall screws. The trim is constructed from galvanized steel drywall bead. Key features include a concealed continuous piano hinge, flush and screwdriver-operated latches, or an optional key-operated cylinder lock with an automatic dust shutter. Its finish consists of a prime coat of rust inhibitive electrostatic powder with baked grey enamel. The frame is made from 16 GA steel, while the door is constructed from 14 GA steel.
