The KDW features a textured frame and bead designed for applying drywall joint compound in sufficient thickness to effectively conceal the flange. It is equipped with prepunched holes in the flange that facilitate fastening to framing members using drywall screws. The trim is made of galvanized steel drywall bead. Key attributes include a concealed continuous piano hinge, flush latches that can be operated with a screwdriver or a key-operated cylinder lock with an automatic dust shutter. The finish consists of a prime coat of rust inhibitive electrostatic powder, baked grey enamel. The frame is constructed from 16 gauge steel, while the door is made of 14 gauge steel.
