The KDW is designed with a textured frame and bead that allows for drywall joint compound to be applied in sufficient thickness to conceal the flange. It features prepunch holes in the flange that facilitate fastening to framing members with drywall screws. The trim is constructed from galvanized steel drywall bead. The hinge is a concealed, continuous piano hinge, while the latches can be either flush and screwdriver operated or equipped with a key-operated cylinder lock featuring an automatic dust shutter. The finish includes a prime coat of rust-inhibitive electrostatic powder, baked grey enamel. The frame is constructed of 16 gauge steel, and the door is made of 14 gauge steel.
