The KDW features a textured frame and bead designed to allow drywall joint compound to be applied in sufficient thickness to conceal the flange. The trim includes a galvanized steel drywall bead, and prepunched holes in the flange facilitate fastening to framing members with drywall screws. Key features of the KDW include a concealed, continuous piano hinge; latches that are either flush and screwdriver operated or key-operated cylinder locks with an automatic dust shutter; and a finish that consists of a prime coat of rust-inhibitive electrostatic powder, baked grey enamel. The frame is constructed from 16 gauge steel, while the door is made of 14 gauge steel.
