The KDW features a textured frame and bead that allows drywall joint compound to be applied in sufficient thickness to effectively conceal the flange. It includes prepunch holes in the flange, which facilitate fastening to framing members using drywall screws. The trim is constructed from galvanized steel drywall bead, while the hinge is a concealed, continuous piano hinge. The latches are flush and can be operated with a screwdriver or can be secured with a key-operated cylinder lock that includes an automatic dust shutter. The finish consists of a prime coat of rust-inhibitive electrostatic powder, baked grey enamel. The frame is made from 16-gauge steel, and the door is made from 14-gauge steel.
