The KDW features a textured frame and bead designed to allow drywall joint compound to be applied in sufficient thickness to effectively conceal the flange. It includes prepunch holes in the flange that facilitate fastening to framing members with drywall screws. The trim is made from galvanized steel drywall bead. Key features comprise a concealed, continuous piano hinge for smooth operation, and latches that can either be flush and screwdriver operated or key-operated cylinder locks equipped with an automatic dust shutter. The finish includes a prime coat of rust inhibitive electrostatic powder, baked to a grey enamel, ensuring durability. The frame is constructed from 16 gauge steel, while the door is made from 14 gauge steel.
