The KDW is designed with a textured frame and bead that allows for drywall joint compound to be applied in sufficient thickness to conceal the flange. It includes prepunch holes in the flange to facilitate fastening to framing members using drywall screws. The trim is made of galvanized steel drywall bead. Key features of the KDW include a concealed, continuous piano hinge, flush latches that can be operated with a screwdriver or a key-operated cylinder lock with an automatic dust shutter. The finish features a prime coat of rust-inhibitive electrostatic powder in baked grey enamel. The frame is constructed from 16-gauge steel, while the door is made of 14-gauge steel.
