A-2 Tool Steel is a general-purpose, 5% chrome air hardening tool steel known for its superior wear resistance compared to S-7, A-6, and A-8 tool steels, while also offering greater toughness and ductility than D-2 tool steel. This grade is recognized for its safe hardening properties and can be heat treated in most tool room furnaces without issue. A-2 Tool Steel has a machinability rating of 65 when contrasted with a 1% carbon steel.
