Brass nipples are produced from seamless red brass pipe, which is alloy 230. This type of brass is easier to machine, less brittle to work with, and far more resistant to corrosion than yellow brass, as it will not dezincify. Brass offers good corrosion resistance from water and heat, and it resists attack from salt water, acids, minerals, and peaty soils contained in water. It is primarily utilized for water in commercial plumbing and OEM applications, but it is also suitable for oil, gas, and steam applications.
