Brass nipples are produced from seamless red brass pipe, specifically alloy 230, making them easier to machine, less brittle to work with, and far more resistant to corrosion compared to yellow brass, which can dezincify. The brass material provides good corrosion resistance from water and heat, as well as resistance to salt water, acids, minerals, and peaty soils present in water. These nipples are primarily utilized in commercial plumbing and OEM applications for water but are also suitable for oil, gas, and steam applications.
