The kit includes a diamond shape day signal measuring 24" x 48", constructed from heavy-duty vinyl-coated nylon fabric and supported by a stainless steel framing that allows for full collapsibility when stored. Its simplicity of design ensures rapid and rigid display when needed. This day shape is used for maritime communication, adhering to USCG navigational rules. It is one of five types of day shapes, all of which are black in color, comprising: a circle, diamond, cone (apex pointed up), cone (apex pointed down), and a cylinder. Specific configurations for signaling include a single round ball for at anchor, three round balls in a vertical line for aground, and an inverted cone for making way with sails up and motor on (applicable only to sailboats 12 meters or larger). Additional signals include two green lights or two diamonds for dredging or indicating a safe passing side, two red lights or two circles for the side with an obstruction, two round balls in a straight line for a vessel not under command, a cylinder for a vessel restrained by draft, three shapes (top and bottom as balls, middle as a diamond) for a vessel restricted in maneuverability, and two cones in a vertical line with apexes pointed at the center for a vessel engaged in fishing.
