3M™ Double Coated Tape 9420 is a clear polyester film tape measuring 6.5 mils in thickness, featuring a super aggressive, pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive with a glassine release liner. The tape utilizes a 0.5 mil hand-tearable polyester film carrier that is coated on both sides with a heavy layer of adhesive, ensuring superior bonding and conformability to both irregular and flat surfaces. With a high coat weight, this tape adheres well to low surface energy substrates and is designed to provide excellent UV resistance. Once bonded, it exhibits remarkable peel and shear strength, making it suitable for rigorous splicing applications and effectively bonding plastics to metals. The tape is mounted on a 55# glassine backing for ease of deployment, and its red color enhances visibility during splicing applications. Recommended applications include high-speed splicing, bonding decorative trim, plastics, metal profile extrusions, attachment to irregular surfaces, seaming of vinyl banners, and various universal bonding applications typical of double coated tapes.
