The large size general-purpose drills feature a three-flatted 1/2" reduced shank and are manufactured from high-speed steel substrate. They are designed with a 118° split point for easier, more precise penetration, and have a standard overall length of 6" with a flute length of 3-1/8" for increased rigidity, reduced deflection, and improved hole accuracy. The standardized lengths facilitate minimal adjustment during tool changes in screw machines and machining centers. The three flats on the shank provide a more positive grip in the drill chuck, helping to reduce drill slippage under high loads, making them ideal for portable drilling applications due to their increased rigidity. The black and gold (barber pole) oxide finish enhances wear resistance and adds lubricity, thereby improving chip flow. These drills are suitable for use wherever the maximum chuck capacity is 1/2" and can effectively drill into carbon steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and wood.
