The tissue culture treated surface of the plates enhances cell adhesion, and they are labeled with alpha-numeric markings for easy identification of individual wells. Each well features a raised rim that nests into the rings on the single direction lid, which reduces evaporation and minimizes the risk of cross-contamination. The lids include a stacking feature for improved stability when handling tall stacks of plates. The 1 well plate has a footprint equivalent to standard multiple well plates, making it suitable for high-volume and robotic screening of DNA libraries, as well as manual plating; it is also appropriate for dot-blotting bacterial clones on 11.4 x 7.3 cm (4.5 x 2.875 in) nylon membranes. The 4 well plate presents a smaller footprint option that offers well sizes similar to those of a 24 well plate while providing expanded well spacing to further decrease cross-contamination. The 384 well plates are specifically designed for automated applications, colorimetric assays, compound storage, or small volume applications.
