The tissue culture treated surface of these plates enhances cell adhesion, while the alpha-numeric markings on each plate allow for easy identification of individual wells. Each well features a raised rim that nests into the rings of the single direction lid to minimize evaporation and reduce the risk of cross-contamination. The lids include a stacking feature for added stability when handling tall stacks of plates. One well plate maintains the same footprint as standard multiple well plates, making it suitable for high-volume and robotic screening of DNA libraries, as well as manual plating; it is also compatible with dot-blotting bacterial clones on 11.4 x 7.3 cm (4.5 x 2.875 in) nylon membranes. Additionally, the four well plate presents a smaller footprint option with well sizes similar to that of a 24 well plate, but with expanded well spacing to further reduce cross-contamination. The 384 well plates are particularly well-suited for automated applications, colorimetric assays, compound storage, or small volume applications.
