FEP rods and sheets are made from fluorinated ethylene propylene, a relatively soft thermoplastic that exhibits lower tensile strength, wear resistance, and creep resistance compared to many other engineering plastics. This material is chemically inert and features a low dielectric constant across a wide frequency range. FEP boasts a high degree of stress crack resistance, a low coefficient of friction, and exceptional dielectric properties. It has excellent heat resistance, retaining useful properties after service at temperatures of 400°F (204°C) and remaining functional at -454°F (-270°C). Additionally, FEP fulfills the compliance requirements of FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 and offers high transparency with good transmittance of ultraviolet and visible wavelengths. Notably, FEP possesses the lowest refractive index of all thermoplastics, resulting in low light reflection comparable to that of water.
