FEP rods and sheets are made from fluorinated ethylene propylene, a relatively soft thermoplastic known for its chemical inertness and low dielectric constant across a wide frequency range. While it has lower tensile strength, wear resistance, and creep resistance compared to many other engineering plastics, FEP boasts a very high degree of stress crack resistance and a low coefficient of friction. Its exceptional dielectric properties, along with heat resistance, allow it to retain useful properties after exposure to service temperatures of 400°F (204°C) and as low as -454°F (-270°C). FEP meets FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 standards and features high transparency with good transmittance of ultraviolet and visible wavelengths. Additionally, it has the lowest refractive index among all thermoplastics, exhibiting low light reflection comparable to water.
