3M™ DuraPrep™ Surgical Prepping Solution provides effective antimicrobial kill in a single, painted coat and offers significantly greater drape adhesion than Chloraprep® antiseptic. It is not povidone iodine and is not referenced in any clinical study related to PVP-I. The solution maintains low resident bacterial counts for at least 48 hours after blood and saline exposure and at least 12 hours against transient bacteria. 3M™ DuraPrep™ Surgical Prepping Solution is the only surgical patient prep approved by the FDA for application in a single, painted coat without scrubbing. It achieves a 2 log reduction in bacterial counts on the abdomen at 10 minutes and a 3 log reduction in the groin at the same time, with both sites maintaining counts below baseline for up to 6 hours. The product is supported by extensive clinical documentation including five human safety studies, nine in vitro studies, and eight clinical in-use studies. It dries to a water-insoluble film that immobilizes bacteria not killed, thereby reducing the risk of microbial migration to the surgical incision, even in the absence of an incise drape.
