The drum handler is designed to grab a drum off a pallet, floor, rack, or other surfaces using 8" x 16" (20 x 41 cm) jaws. It features heavy-duty hydraulic grip cylinders equipped with a velocity fuse for full line shut-off in case of a line failure, allowing users to handle steel drums and, with the optional grip pads (option # 6172XL-P), plastic or fiber drums. Capable of lifting 15 to 55-gallon drums (55 to 210 liters) with a diameter of 14" to 24" (35-5/8 to 61 cm), it allows for control of the pouring angle by tilting the drum down between the forks, which requires 25" (63-1/2 cm) between forks. The fork pocket openings measure 2-1/2" (6-3/8 cm) high by 6-1/2" (16-1/2 cm) wide. With a compact design that weighs only 630 lb. (286 kg), it has a capacity of 1500 lb. (680 kg), minimizing lost load on the forklift. The model 290F is equipped with a 10-foot (3 m) cord and pendant to control the drum grip and tilt functions, featuring built-in safety elements. It operates on self-contained 12V battery power, and there is an option (#6149I-P) for wireless control available. The recommended group size for the battery is a 27 12V deep cycle lead-acid battery (Exide # 27MDP or equivalent), noting that the 12V deep cycle lead-acid battery is designed for domestic shipment only; for export, the option "NB" allows the end user to obtain the battery before use. The device is capable of fully inverting the drum, allowing a 180° turn to empty its contents, with forward tilt control powered by the battery. It is specifically designed for typical drum types, including steel, plastic, or fiber, and users should be aware that plastic drums may deform when gripped, requiring additional tightening during pouring. Model 290F is not recommended for specific applications.
