Betco® Hard as Nails® floor finish is formulated with highly durable, internally cross-linked polymers designed to provide a harder floor finish film. This advanced chemistry results in a high-gloss, long-wearing finish that cures quickly and resists dirt embedment and scuffs, making it ideal for educational and retail facilities with limited time for floor burnishing. It is recommended for use on all types of resilient tile, including vinyl composition, vinyl, and linoleum, as well as properly sealed hard surfaces such as marble and terrazzo. For restorative maintenance, it is essential to completely remove all old wax, finish, and soil from the floor surface using the strip procedure outlined on the stripper label, ensuring the surface is clean, dry, and free of residue prior to application. The finish should be applied in thin to medium coats with a clean synthetic finish mop or applicator, allowing each coat to dry thoroughly—typically 20 to 30 minutes—before applying additional coats, with a total of 4 to 5 coats recommended. In cases where the tile is aged, worn, or porous, initially applying 1 to 2 coats of a sealer can help enhance gloss and long-term performance. For routine maintenance, large debris should be swept and dust mopped with a water-based treatment, while damp mopping or automatic scrubbing with a neutral pH cleaner is advised. Buffing or burnishing can be performed as needed, and using a cleaner/restorer will help condition the floor and prolong the time between top scrubbing and recoating. Interim maintenance involves sweeping and dust mopping, followed by top scrubbing with a top scrub cleaner and recommended floor pad to eliminate the top soiled layers of finish, ensuring the surface is clean and dry before applying 1 to 2 additional coats. This product meets or exceeds slip resistance standards as per ASTM D 2047.
