Scotch® Filament Tape 898 is a high-performance transparent packaging tape that is reinforced with continuous glass-yarn filaments along its length, providing very high tensile strength. The tape features a transparent 3M™ ScotchPro™ backing that delivers excellent abrasion, moisture, and scuff resistance. Its aggressive adhesive is specifically formulated for balanced performance, boasting high adhesion and long-term holding power, making it ideal for applications such as "L" clip closures and "C" clip reinforcements. The clear polypropylene backing, reinforced with glass yarn filaments and synthetic rubber adhesive, ensures good protection of filaments and adhesive for longer package life. This tape meets ASTM D5330, Type II (replacing PPP-T-97E and CID A-A-1686A), and exhibits high shear, great initial adhesion, and excellent aging properties. It allows printing and illustrations to be visible through the tape, providing advertising and warning capabilities when printed. Additionally, the tape saves time through ease of dispensing and handling when used with a 3M™ dispenser, while maintaining a low unit cost by utilizing less tape on applications that require high tensile strength. It holds instantly with minimal rubdown, ensuring that boxes remain securely closed through normal warehouse time cycles.
