3M™ Scotch® 8959 bi-directional filament tape features a backing reinforced along its length with continuous glass yarn filaments, providing high tensile strength in both the longitudinal and transverse directions, combined with a biaxially oriented polypropylene backing. The adhesive is specifically formulated for effective adhesion to various surfaces, including metallic, plastic, and fiberboard. The tape has a 5.7 mil thickness and includes a clear polypropylene backing reinforced with bi-directional glass filaments and a synthetic rubber adhesive. Key features include excellent abrasion, moisture, and scuff resistance, aggressive adhesive for balanced performance, high cross-direction tensile strength, and visibility for printing and illustrations through the tape. It also boasts excellent shear and initial adhesion, aging properties, and protection of filaments and adhesive for longer package life. The tape outperforms paper backings in outdoor and humid environments, resists center seams slitting in both machine and cross directions, and provides excellent holding power under varied application conditions with minimal amount of tape. It requires minimal rubdown for adhesion and does not need water to activate, ensuring that boxes remain closed for extended periods of time.
