3M™ Scotch® 8959 bi-directional filament tape is engineered with continuous glass yarn filaments that reinforce the tape along its length, offering very high tensile strength in both the longitudinal and transverse directions, complemented by a biaxially oriented polypropylene backing. This tape features a 5.7 mil thickness and a clear polypropylene backing reinforced with bi-directional glass filaments and a synthetic rubber adhesive, providing excellent abrasion, moisture, and scuff resistance. The aggressive adhesive is specifically formulated to ensure balanced performance, showcasing high adhesion and long-term holding power. It exhibits high cross-direction tensile strength, allows for printing and illustrations to be visible through the tape, and demonstrates excellent shear and initial adhesion, making it suitable for a wide variety of surfaces including metallic, plastic, and fiberboard. Additionally, the tape excels in aging and protection of filaments and adhesive, resulting in a longer package life. It outperforms paper backings when exposed to outdoor and humid environments and resists center seams slitting in both machine and cross directions, enhancing overall tape performance. With excellent holding power under various application conditions and minimal rubdown required, the tape ensures that boxes remain securely closed for extended periods of time.
