3M™ Scotch® 8959 bi-directional filament tape features a high tensile strength reinforced with continuous glass yarn filaments along its length, complemented by a biaxially oriented polypropylene backing. The adhesive is designed for effective adhesion to a variety of surfaces including metallic, plastic, and fiberboard. The tape has a thickness of 5.7 mil and consists of a clear polypropylene backing reinforced with bi-directional glass filaments and a synthetic rubber adhesive, which provides high cross-direction tensile strength. It showcases excellent shear and initial adhesion, while also demonstrating outstanding aging properties. The tape protects its filaments and adhesive, resulting in an extended package life. It outperforms paper backings in outdoor and humid conditions, resists center seam slitting in both machine and cross directions, and maintains excellent holding power across a wide range of application conditions with minimal usage. The tape requires only a slight rubdown for adhesion and does not need water for activation, ensuring boxes remain securely closed for extended periods.
