3M™ Scotch® 8959 bi-directional filament tape features a robust construction reinforced along its length with continuous glass yarn filaments, delivering exceptional tensile strength in both longitudinal and transverse directions. The tape boasts a 5.7 mil thickness and a clear polypropylene backing that is reinforced with bi-directional glass filaments, complemented by a synthetic rubber adhesive specifically formulated for strong adhesion to various surfaces including metallic, plastic, and fiberboard. Key attributes include excellent abrasion, moisture, and scuff resistance, as well as high cross-direction tensile strength. The aggressive adhesive provides balanced performance characterized by high adhesion and long-term holding power, ensuring remarkable shear and initial adhesion, excellent aging properties, and protection of the filaments and adhesive for extended package life. This tape is optimized for performance in outdoor and humid conditions, resists center seams slitting in both machine and cross directions, and provides excellent holding power under a wide range of application conditions with minimal tape usage. Additionally, it allows printing and illustrations to be seen through the tape and maintains closure of boxes for extended periods without the need for water activation.
