3M™ Scotch® 8959 bi-directional filament tape is designed with a reinforced construction that includes continuous glass yarn filaments for exceptional tensile strength in both the longitudinal and transverse directions, complemented by a biaxially oriented polypropylene backing. The tape features a thickness of 5.7 mil and is equipped with an aggressive adhesive that adheres well to a variety of surfaces such as metallic, plastic, and fiberboard. Its clear polypropylene backing, enhanced with bi-directional glass filaments and synthetic rubber adhesive, ensures high cross-direction tensile strength while allowing visibility of printed illustrations. This tape exhibits excellent shear and initial adhesion, along with durable aging properties, prolonging package life by protecting the filaments and adhesive. It outperforms paper backings in outdoor and humid environments and resists center seam slitting in both machine and cross directions, thereby increasing overall performance. Additionally, it delivers excellent holding power across diverse application conditions with minimal tape usage and requires no water for activation, ensuring boxes remain securely closed for extended periods.
