Rugged carboys have a 20 L (5-5/16 gallon) capacity and are constructed from FDA-grade polypropylene, ensuring compliance with 21 CFR 177.1520 for direct contact with foods and beverages and are USP Class VI certified, making them suitable for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. They are designed for storing and dispensing large batches of culture media, distilled water, and other solutions, featuring excellent chemical resistance and large handles for enhanced transportability. The carboys are steam autoclavable at 121°C (250°F); however, it is important not to engage cap threads during autoclaving. The 83 mm screw cap includes a built-in thermo-plastic elastomer washer, providing a positive seal, and a molded-in bung accepts an easy-to-use spigot, which is positioned low on the carboy for more complete drainage. These carboys are available with or without a spigot.
