Ball valves utilize a spherical disc to control the flow between pipes, tubes, or hoses, allowing flow when the hole in the ball-shaped disc is aligned with the inlet and outlet of the valve, and blocking flow when the ball is horizontally swiveled 90 degrees, positioning the hole perpendicular to the valve opening. These valves can be categorized as full port or reduced port, also known as regular or standard port, based on the inner diameter; a full port ball valve features a hole size equivalent to the inner diameter of the connecting pipeline, minimizing friction, while a reduced port valve has a hole one pipe size smaller, which restricts flow compared to the pipeline. Ball valves can be equipped with a handle or lever that indicates the ball's position for manual operation and are suitable for applications involving air, gas, liquid, and steam.
