Ball valves utilize a spherical disc to regulate flow between pipes, tubes, or hoses. Flow is permitted when the hole piercing the ball disc aligns with the inlet and outlet of the valve, while it is obstructed when the ball is turned 90 degrees, positioning the hole perpendicular to the valve opening. These valves are classified as full port or reduced port, depending on their inner diameter. A full port ball valve features a ball hole that matches the inner diameter of the connecting pipeline, resulting in lower friction, whereas a reduced port ball valve has a hole one pipe size smaller, leading to decreased flow compared to the pipeline's shaft. Ball valves may include a handle or lever that indicates the ball's position (open or closed) for manual operation. They are widely applicable in air, gas, liquid, and steam systems.
