Ball valves utilize a spherical disc to regulate flow between pipes, tubes, or hoses, allowing flow when the hole piercing the ball aligns with the inlet and outlet of the valve. Flow is obstructed when the ball is rotated 90 degrees, positioning the hole perpendicularly to the valve opening. These valves are categorized as full port or reduced port based on their inner diameter—full port valves feature a hole that matches the inner diameter of the connecting pipeline, minimizing friction, while reduced port valves have a hole one size smaller, leading to decreased flow. They can be equipped with a handle or lever that indicates the ball's position for manual operation and are suitable for use in air, gas, liquid, and steam applications.
