The 3M™ Stikit™ paper disc roll 426U measures 6 inches in diameter and features silicon carbide abrasive with a grit size of 400, containing 175 discs per roll. These multiple sanding discs are designed for high-production environments and are ideal for applications including white wood sanding, sealer sanding, solid surface finishing, or any task where a fine finish is critical. The discs employ a load-resistant coating combined with an open coat abrasive structure to minimize loading by allowing wood or paint dust to collect in the spaces between abrasive grains rather than clogging the cutting surface, enhancing both cutting efficiency and disc lifespan. Silicon carbide abrasive is chosen for its fast-cutting properties and ability to produce a smoother finish compared to aluminum oxide or garnet, especially effective on hardwoods and solid surfaces. The discs are constructed with A-weight light paper and have a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing that enables the disc to flex with the backup pad and conform over contours, ensuring consistent finishes. The PSA backing securely holds the disc during use yet allows for quick and easy changes, making them suitable for rotary and random orbital sanders. Typical applications include general sanding, finishing, blending, surface leveling, and preparation prior to staining or painting on bare wood. The open coat design also delivers a more aggressive cut than closed coat abrasives of the same grit. Silicon carbide, as a synthetic mineral, functions well under low-pressure conditions and, while it wears faster than aluminum oxide, it provides superior finishing results.
