The 3M™ flap disc 577F Giant measures 4-1/2 inches in diameter with a 5/8-11 arbor and features T29 alumina zirconia abrasive material in 60 grit. It is designed for tough grinding applications where a fine final finish is important, as the overlapping layers of abrasive-coated, fiber-reinforced flaps continually wear away to expose fresh abrasive mineral for fast, consistent cutting while cushioning the workpiece to create a blended finish. The disc includes a grinding aid that reduces temperatures during grinding processes involving heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium. Giant size flap discs have the same diameter as standard discs but feature wider flaps, packed with 25% more abrasive material for a more aggressive cut and longer life. These three-dimensional grinding discs are ideal for use on a right angle grinder and provide a one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs by grinding and finishing in one operation, typically generating a finish one grade finer than comparable fiber discs while offering greater flexibility to follow curves and contours with less gouging and enhanced operator comfort. Applications include blending, deburring, edge beveling, finishing, polishing, weld grinding, rust removal, edge grinding, weld seam blending, and metal fabrication.
