The 3M™ Flap Wheel Type 83 747D measures 1-1/2" x 1" x 1/4" and features an 80 grit ceramic mixed ceramic abrasive. Each flap is coated with a proprietary ceramic abrasive mix combining aluminum oxide and 3M ceramic grain, designed to enhance the toughness and hardness of the grain for a harder, longer-lasting abrasive. This ceramic/aluminum oxide blend outperforms standard aluminum oxide in cut-rate and durability, making it suitable for light to moderate stock removal and surface preparation, especially in heat and stress-intensive applications. The abrasive mix is bonded to a flexible X-weight cotton backing using a resin bond that resists thermal and chemical deterioration during high-speed sanding, allowing for faster cuts and a higher cut rate. The wheel includes a grinding aid for cooler running on stainless steel, and as the flaps wear down, they expose fresh abrasive material to maintain consistent sanding performance throughout the wheel's life. Available in flange and spindle mounted constructions, these flap wheels are ideal for light grinding, blending, graining, and scale removal on various metals, commonly used in metal fabrication for blending, descaling, refining, and setting the grain.
