The 3M™ Flap Wheel Type 83 747D measures 1" x 1" x 1/4" and features a 60 grit ceramic mixed ceramic abrasive. Each flap on the wheel is covered with a ceramic abrasive mix composed of aluminum oxide blended with 3M ceramic grain, designed through a proprietary process to enhance toughness and hardness, providing a harder, longer-lasting abrasive. This blend is engineered for fast cutting and to withstand intense heat and stress, making it ideal for light to moderate stock removal and surface preparation. The abrasive mix is attached to a flexible X-weight cotton backing using a resin bond that resists thermal and chemical deterioration during high-speed sanding, resulting in faster cuts and a higher cut rate. The wheel includes a grinding aid for cooler running on stainless steel, and the flaps bend to fit any workpiece while self-cutting to reveal fresh abrasive material for consistent performance throughout the wheel’s life. Flap wheels are available in both flange mounted and spindle mounted constructions and are suitable for applications such as blending, descaling, refining, and setting the grain in metal fabrication industries.
