The 3M™ flap wheel type 83 244D measures 2" x 1" x 1/4" and features a 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive on a firm X-weight cloth backing. Designed as a general-purpose flap wheel, it provides a consistent finish and uniform cut, suitable for various grinding and polishing applications. Aluminum oxide is chosen for its fast cut-rate, long life, and ability to self-fracture, exposing fresh cutting edges, unlike slower-dulling natural abrasives. This flap wheel is resin bonded for heat resistance, long-lasting, and fast cutting, with a straight spindle mount for easy attachment to bench motors, die grinders, and inline sanders. It is commonly used in blending, descaling, refining, and setting the grain, primarily within metal fabrication industries.
