The 3M™ flap disc 577F measures 7" in diameter with a 5/8-11 internal thread and features a 40 grit alumina zirconia abrasive mineral on durable polyester-backed flaps designed for fast cutting power and long life in heavy-duty metalworking applications such as weld removal, sharp-edge work, and beveling. The abrasive flap disc is engineered for high-pressure grinding operations where a blended finish is important; the overlapping layered flaps continually wear away to expose fresh abrasive mineral, providing a fast, consistent cut and generating a finish typically one grade finer than the disc grit. It includes a grinding aid to reduce grinding temperatures when working with heat-sensitive alloys like stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium. This flap disc fits right angle grinders and is classified as a giant size flap disc, which means it has the same diameter as standard flap discs but wider, thicker flaps containing 25% more abrasive material for a more aggressive cut and longer service life. The flap disc construction is three-dimensional with fiber-reinforced flaps that fan out from a central hub, making it a one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs by grinding and finishing simultaneously, offering both time and cost savings. Under normal use, the product complies with standard industrial safety certifications and specifications for abrasive tools, maintaining operational safety and efficiency.
