The 3M™ flap disc 577F measures 4-1/2" in diameter with a 7/8" arbor hole and features a 40 grit alumina zirconia abrasive mineral designed for high-pressure metalworking applications such as weld removal, sharp-edge work, and beveling. It consists of durable polyester-backed flaps coated with fast-cutting alumina zirconia, providing extra cutting power and long life under heavy-duty use. The flap disc’s overlapping layers wear away progressively to expose fresh abrasive, ensuring a consistent, fast cut and producing a blended finish that is typically one grade finer than the disc’s grit rating. It includes a grinding aid to reduce heat buildup, making it suitable for heat-sensitive alloys like stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium. These discs fit right angle grinders and come in a giant size variant that retains the 4-1/2" diameter but features wider, thicker flaps with 25% more abrasive material for a more aggressive cut and extended service life. The flap disc design provides a one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs, combining grinding and finishing in a single operation for time and cost savings. The layered, fiber-reinforced flap construction delivers flexibility, durability, and long-lasting performance, maintaining the disc’s abrasive cutting ability under normal grinding conditions.
