The 3M™ flap disc 577F measures 4-1/2 inches in diameter with a 7/8 inch arbor hole and features 80 grit alumina zirconia abrasive mineral on durable polyester-backed flaps. Designed for tackling high-pressure metalworking applications such as weld removal, sharp-edge work, and beveling, it provides a blended finish in a single step. The flap disc consists of overlapping layers of fiber-reinforced abrasive-coated flaps that wear away to expose fresh abrasive material, delivering a fast, consistent cut and a finish one grade finer than the disc's grit. The grinding aid incorporated reduces temperatures during use on heat-sensitive alloys like stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium. Intended for use with right angle grinders, the giant size flap discs have the same diameter as standard discs but feature wider flaps that contain 25% more abrasive material for a more aggressive cut and longer life. This three-dimensional grinding disc, constructed as a one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs, combines grinding and finishing operations to save time and costs. The overlapping flap construction enables greater abrasive loading, ensuring durability and improved performance during heavy-duty metalworking tasks.
