The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ EXL unitized wheel measures 6" x 1/4" x 1/2" and features a medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive. It has a soft, conformable consistency designed to smooth, deburr, and finish edges of metal alloys, plastics, and composites. The wheels are available in various densities ranging from a very soft 2 density for high conformability to a hard, aggressive 8 density for maximum cut and durability. This unitized wheel provides a clean edge without smearing, reducing the need for additional cleanup and preparation, and is optimized for use with a die grinder. It minimizes heat buildup during operation, making it suitable for heat-sensitive materials. The wheel is filled with abrasive minerals such as aluminum oxide, available in fine, medium, coarse, and extra coarse grades, and silicon carbide in very fine and fine grades. Scotch-Brite™ products incorporate abrasives into non-woven nylon fibers, creating a surface conditioning system that maintains consistent performance over time with an open-web material that resists loading and limits clogging of the fibers. Typical applications include blending and deburring, with industries served including builders hardware, medical instruments, metal fabrication, metal implants, plumbing fixtures, and turbine engines.
