The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Clean and Strip Disc measures 5" in diameter and 1/2" in thickness, featuring an extra coarse grit made of silicon carbide. This disc is an open-web, non-woven abrasive designed to effectively clean welds, remove rust, and strip paint. Its open construction and aggressive abrasive properties provide a smooth running, load-resistant wheel ideal for removing soft coatings, making it a safe alternative to wire brushes with a greater surface area that leaves a finer finish and may eliminate additional finishing steps. The silicon carbide abrasive is a synthetic mineral known for its sharpness and suitability for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation. Although it breaks down faster than aluminum oxide, it yields a superior finish. Scotch-Brite™ industrial abrasives combine abrasives into non-woven nylon or other synthetic fibers, creating a system that ensures consistent performance throughout the product's life. The open-web material limits clogging by resisting loading and maintains high cutting performance.
