The 3M™ Wetordry™ paper disc 431Q measures 12 inches with NH 120 grit silicon carbide abrasive, featuring extra-fast cutting on a strong, waterproof paper backing designed for superior finishing in both wet and dry applications across various substrates. When used with water, the disc enables rinsing of the workpiece and sheet during use to prevent dust and debris from clogging the abrasive points, reducing airborne dust and producing a faster cut. These discs are ideal for surfaces generating significant dust, such as paint, primer, and wood, and can also be used dry for finishing metal and gel coats. The adhesive backing allows easy attachment to a random orbital sander. Silicon carbide, a very hard mineral that fractures easily, provides freshly exposed sharp edges for fast cutting and a smooth, professional finish; it is suitable for low-pressure applications like paint prep and finishing on wood and metal, and while it wears faster than aluminum oxide, it yields a superior finish. The durable waterproof paper backing developed by 3M supports both wet and dry use and is lighter and smoother than cloth backing, making it preferable for lighter applications such as finishing and paint prep. The pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing is suitable for high heat and severe disc sanding applications and includes convenient liners to reduce contamination prior to use. The product adheres to coated and bonded applications and includes warranty terms as specified by 3M.
